Work Shouldn't Make You Sick

Right now, the NSW Government is considering changes to workers’ compensation laws.

Laws that could make it even harder for people struggling with psychological injury to access the help they need.

These changes would force vulnerable workers to jump through legal hoops—sometimes for months—before they can access counselling, support, or even time off work.

Many will be pushed into a public mental health system that is already stretched far beyond capacity.

We can’t let this happen.

Everyone deserves access to mental health care without having to fight for it.

Australians for Mental Health is urging MPs to reject this harmful legislation.

Instead, we want real, compassionate reform—reform that prioritises recovery, prevention, and safety in the workplace.

If we don’t act now, thousands of people could be left suffering in silence.

That’s why we’re calling on the NSW Government to stop this bill and protect support for workers facing psychological injury.

Email Premier Minns and help stop this harmful law.

Together, we can work towards mental health being a national top agenda in Australia.

Thank you for standing with us.

Tell your MP: Work Shouldn't Make You Sick

Tell the NSW Government: workers need mental healthcare, not cuts.

In the next few weeks NSW Parliament will be asked to vote on draconian new laws that would restrict the ability of workers who are psychologically injured at work to access support.

You can help by writing to the Premier, Chris Minns, along with other Ministers in the Government and your local MP to let them know that the people of NSW will not accept these backward steps.

You might want to incorporate some of the points we have made in our submission to NSW Parliament:

  • We need real solutions to mental health issues in the workplace, informed by experts, workers and employers.
  • By cutting benefits the government will be pushing even more people to an alraedy overstreched mental health system.
  • Many workers will just give up and go untreated, potentially making conditions worse.
  • We need easy access to treatments and early interventions to get people back to work quickly.
  • Politicians, lawyers and accountants should not be the ones designing the workplace mental health system!
